Beautiful Visitor

This is a picture of a Scarlet Tanager taken by Heidi, a recent guest, when she and her husband Bob were walking on the trails at Secluded Farm, across the street from the Inn.  We have lots of magnificent birds here, but this one is truly spectacular.  Thanks to Heidi and Bob for sharing this photograph.

Rudy Getting Around On 3 Legs

Rudy rests after making a clean sweep of the kitchen floor
Rudy, our beloved Norwich Terrier, has always been at the front door to greet guests upon their arrival.    He's also kept the kitchen floor and the rug under the dining room table free of any bits of food that somehow fall off breakfast plates, and he's always allowed guests to easily get in touch with their inner lapdog.  About 3 weeks ago he suffered a nerve injury to his left front leg, which has held him back from some of his greeting and begging activities.  We're glad to report that he now seems to be feeling much better.  Although he currently has to get around on 3 legs,  he garners more sympathy, petting and food than before his accident.  He continues to think he has the best life of any inn dog.

Stay Tuned For Some Cool Things To Do!

Hope you're enjoying your summer, and staying cool.  We suffered no damage or loss of power from the wind storm on June 29th, and our A/C is alive and well.  On the 30th, we even celebrated our  daughter's wedding with, at last count, 180 friends and family members here at the Inn.  Hey, it was no sweat!

There's always plenty of fun ("cool") things to experience here, especially in the music and arts categories.  The Ashlawn Opera opened its 2012 season last Friday at the beautifully restored and air-conditioned Paramount Theater.  The Veritas Vineyards Starry Nights series kicked off recently among the grape vines in Nelson County.  It's a great place to pack a picnic supper, drink some fine wine, and  listen and dance to some energizing music.  And in the mountains of southwest Virginia, Floyd Fest will rock the Blue Ridge from July 26 - 29, with appearances by Allison Krause, Jackson Brown, Brandi Carlile, Bruce Hornsby, the Drive-by Truckers, and lots of other great musicians. Come and enjoy some of these wonderful artists, and stop by and visit with us along the way.
